Hand in Hand We Stand

Did you know that an estimated 6.1 million children have parents with a disability? Our U.S. legal system is not properly protecting the rights of parents with disabilities, and we need something to change that.

A Kansas City Missouri couple had their daughter taken away by the state two days after her birth because both parents were blind.

A Chicago mother, because she is quadriplegic, endured an 18-month legal battle to keep custody of her young son.

A California woman paid an advance fee to an adoption agency, only to be told she might be unfit to adopt because she has cerebral palsy.

Ari Ne’eman, an autism-rights activist stated, “Parents with disabilities continue to be the only distinct

community that has to fight to retain, and sometimes gain, custody of their own children.”

How is it fair for a court to decide that, based on a disability you are deemed unfit to parent? So often we fight to keep families together, or bring families together, why should that change because of a disability? It should be as simple as making sure there is enough support out there for the parents to help them with any struggle they may face.

Justifeyed was created so that anyone, no matter what they are facing, has an equal and fair chance when dealing with legal issues. There is not enough knowledge and understanding for those who face reading and writing difficulties, yet we throw all this paperwork at them in a legal situation and just expect they will know it and understand it. Many times we put them in front of a judge, tell them what to say and move on. Where is the justice in that?

Justifeyed and its creator, Marcus Evans, wants to be the face of change. The voice for those without a voice, the eyes where there are none, and the equality that we all deserve. If you face every day with a disability and face a legal situation and feel helpless, Justifeyed wants to take that feeling away and give you the tools you need to have the same opportunities to help yourself, as anyone in those situations.

We need community support to help you. Spread the word of Justifeyed, donate for the cause, and we can make this much needed change. Let the face of Justifeyed be the face of change and equality.
